Rainforest Adventure Road Trip Macaw’s Clay Lick 2 Days
Day 1: Transfer to Wasaí Tambopata Lodge
A staff member will wait for you at the airport to transfer you to Wasai Puerto Maldonado Ecolodge, where you will be welcomed with a delicious tropical juice. After a brief explanation of the tour and accommodating the luggage, we will head for the Inter Oceanic Highway, where we will see small villages and farms with livestock of tropical breeds.
Afterwards, we will take a shortcut in direction to Venado Station. The shortcut is a narrow dirt road that initially runs through plantations of local species, as we get away from the highway and into the deep jungle; human presence gradually reduces until we reach the Venado Station.
There we will have lunch. Afterwards, we will start our trekking of 4 kms through primary forest until we reach Wasai Tambopata Lodge. Reception and accommodation in the lodge. After a
short rest we will have a night tour through the forest to observe and hear the insects, bats, frogs, and maybe have an occasional encounter with some nocturnal mammal. Dinner. The various sounds of the jungle will accompany you through your first night in the Amazon.

Day 2: Macaw’s Clay Lick
Early wake up around 4:30 a.m. and begin with our 60-minutes journey upstream to the Macaw’s Clay Lick “El Chuncho” in the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park. We will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural sceneries and wildlife of the riverbanks. At our arrival, if weather permits, we will observe one of the greatest wildlife spectacles where hundreds of parrots and different species of macaws gather in the clay lick to eat it, an unforgettable experience. We will have breakfast while we
wait for the macaws to arrive.
Halfway through the morning we will return to our Wasai Alto Tambopata Lodge, located at the entrance of the National Park, after 1 hour from the Macaw Clay Lick. A fantastic voyage
through the best of the Tambopata Reserve, with opportunities to see capybaras, tapirs, monkeys and with luck: jaguars. It is a route with high chances of seeing wildlife, one of the
best in the Amazon. At your arrival, you can relax in the hammocks or have the chance of swimming in the Tambopata River. Those who wish can go kayaking on the river (*) or go
fishing some of the 250 species that inhabit the river.
After lunch, we will make a short ethno botanical walk of 1 km until the swamp area, into the rainforest by the Tambopata cross path, to learn about plants and medicinal trees of the area;
and to observe the amazing jungle ecosystem where we will see walking palm trees, giant lupuna trees, snake trees and so on. Then we will start our last trek back to Puerto Maldonado.
